Splashy full-scale musical about London teens in the 1950's when England was really starting to swing. The story charts the lives of Colin and Suzette, two lovers who must choose to live by their idealistic principles or sell out to get to the top of the fashion world.
A modernist musical about the first stirrings of British teen culture. The young hero, an aspiring photographer, faces a moral dilemma: stick to his values and stay poor -- or sell out and become rich enough to win back his materialistic, fashion designer girlfriend. In the process, he takes the viewer on a musical tour of London's changing politics and styles in the late 1950s.
Director Julien Temple started out directing music videos for singers such as David Bowie ("Jazzin' for Blue Jean"), Mick Jagger ("Running Out of Luck") and Sheena Easton. He also focused on full-length music films, including "The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle," about the punk rock group The Sex Pistols, and "The Secret Policeman's Other Ball."
Later he filmed the "Rigoletto" section for the film "Aria," and the musical comedy "Earth Girls Are Easy."
